How do I visit Spendthrift Farm?
All of our tours are booked through Visit Horse Country and you can find our availability here. We do not allow walk-ins, all tickets must be purchased in advance but you can purchase a ticket up to the morning of a tour, so give Horse Country a call at 859-963-1004 or go online! If you have a child 0-2 years old they do not need a ticket but we do encourage a stroller or carrier.
How long is the tour?
The typically Spendthrift Farm tour lasts 1 hour with the option to add a 30 minute tram ride through the farm at the end. Our Photography Tours and Elevated Experience Tours last 1.5 hours
How much walking will I do?
This is a walking tour on relatively even surfaces - we can accommodate for wheelchairs / walkers / crutches if we are notified in advance. If you add on the Tram Ride or take the Photography Tour you will be getting in and out of a vehicle and walking on grass
What are your hours?
We offer the Spendthrift Farm Tour on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 12:30 pm until June. Beginning in June the time changes to 1:30 pm. Our Elevated or Behind the Scenes tours are during times the farm is typically closed - 6:30 am, 7 am, or 7 pm
Do I get to pet horses?
Yes, if you add on the shuttle tour at the end of the Spendthrift Stallions tour or take the Photography Tour. You will have the opportunity to pet mares and foals!
Where do I park?
The farm will be marked with signs directing you to the parking location
If it is raining/snowing/etc. is my tour still happening?
We are rain or shine on all tours unless there is a safety concern for the guests
If I need to cancel my tour, what do I do?
All of our tours are booked through Visit Horse Country and the policy from their website is:
Cancellations require notice of at least 48 business hours before the tour time. Business hours are considered Mon-Fri 8:30am – 5pm Eastern Time. Tickets for tours during peak tourism times (Kentucky Derby week, Breeders’ Cup week, etc) will be non-refundable. Cancellations are not available for weather or specific horses not being available. In case of a weather-related cancellation, a rain date will be offered. For guest no-show or late arrivals, refunds will not be issued. Tours are rain or shine.
The service fee is always non-refundable.
Can I bring my dog / pet?
We do not allow dogs or other pets on the tour. If you are traveling and need to bring it, you will be asked to leave it in your car
Can I drive to a tour in my RV?
We can accommodate a large vehicle / RV if notified in advance. Please call Horse Country at 859-963-1004 to let them know
Your tour times don't work for me. Can I come ... ?
Our tours are held at specific times which follow the schedule of the farm. The times provided allow guests to have the most access to our horses so we do not offer other times.
Are there restrooms?
We do not have public restrooms.
We do not have a picnic area.
